Words & Music by Tom Sperrazzo
When they asked me I had to say yes,
Though I thought it insane;
Still I know they'd confess
If they were pressed to declare an unwinnable game.
I carried the arrow and bow,
Sent to start a campaign;
Left the sun for the snow;
Went like a dutiful soldier for questionable gain
Could I stem the tide and charge the shore?
Could I walk right in without a friend and win the war?
But the scene was misread--
The force was literally dead!
I said 'You're out of your head!'.
Got my orders, I had to say yes;
Guess there's no one to blame;
And the year's small success
Isn't enough for the chief and it feels like a frame.
I gave it the best that I had;
There was progress, but slow;
But command's plan was mad;
And when they decide to remove me I want them to know:
You've been asking for dust from fairies,
Squeezing blood from a stone;
Lots of luck--I'm heading back to home!
