"Dear Vera"

Words & Music by Tom Sperrazzo

Writing to you from my sleep;

So many years in the deep;

Darling, I miss you, but you know I had no regrets.

Hearing hermanos in pain

I had to get on that plane;

And that is the 'me' that I pray that no brother forgets.

Sad how the story's still told:

"Bobby was distant and cold";

You knew the truth--I was challenged and put to the test.

Yes, I excelled on the stage;

But darling, the words on the page

Say "He loved with his life to the end"; I gave it my best!

    Give my love to the children,

    How I miss them each day.

    Help them teach the young ones

    How Papi worked through his play.

    Tell my brothers I loved them,

    Just wasn't destined to stay;

    Do they get the picture up

    In Pittsburgh, PA?

After the praise and the cheers,

Twenty-one just disappears;

Tell them, my dear, my life was much more than a bridge.

Three thousand stars to my name;

They thought it all was the game;

But help for Managua was really my reason to live.
