"Out the Door"

Words & Music  by Tom Sperrazzo 2025

Last year I wandered in to find you and grabbed a chair;
And pulled up to the red hot stove ya had burnin' there;
And warmed my frozen soul by the flamin' coal,
Blown away by the marvelous tales you told;
Listenin' to the stories that were bein' spun;
I said, Pardon me, fellas, I think I might have one.

So I jumped right in, pitched an op'ning yarn, then sev'ral more;
Before too long it seemed I'd chipped in a couple score;
They seemed to me superb, lacking any flaws.
I loved the warm and fuzzies, your kind applause;
So I kept goin' on, with spiel's I conjured up,
Eatin' up the glory, fill my cup.

It was a lovely gathering,
You put up with my blathering;
I'm glad you asked me to bring a covered dish
The potluck was so amazing,
From A-to-Z I went grazing;
Glad you liked my special latin fish

I took my turns, anticipatin' the great unveil;
Knowin' that the boys would like my fresh-cooked tale;
Aimin' for the hoo-rahs growin' ever louder;
Soon I had the feeling I was never prouder;
But then I thought..this ain't right!
If all I'm doin' is hungerin' for the light..
So I'll thank my friends and give up the floor
As I let myself quietly OUT THE DOOR.
