"Simple Song"

Words & Music by Tom Sperrazzo, 1982

I know a man, an ordinary man,
Not especially bright or wise;
And all he asks is to love in life
Till the day he dies.
"Why," he asks,
"Is love so hard to find?"
"Where," he asks, "is mine?"

He met a girl, a very special girl
Who smiled and touched his heart;
He kissed her lips, they fell in love;
Soon they had to part;
"How," he asked,
"Can lovers just be friends?"
"Will we meet again?"

That was very long ago
And still his love stayed strong;
He saw her in his dreams at night;
How can dreams be wrong?

I know a man, and old and gentle man
Whose time is drawing near;
And looking back on lonely years
He wonders with a tear:
"How," he asks
"Could love have passed me by?"
"Why, dear God, oh why?
Oh, Why?"
