"Stephen Was Blowin' Away"

Words & Music by Tom Sperrazzo
It was early in May when he drifted my way
Like a thistle that blows in the breeze;
This remarkable stranger said "Stephen's my name--
Do you think I could stay with you, please?"
Oh, his eyes were sincere and his timing was right,
So I heard myself answer "OK!"
But before it could start, every beat of my heart told me
STEPHEN WAS BLOWIN' AWAY.
So my stranger and I spent our June and July
Chasing rainbows and paintin' the sky;
Havin' nothin' but fun under moonlight and sun;
With emotions incredibly high.
And for once in my life I was totally free,
We were loving like children at play;
But I couldn't deny that the look in his eye told me
STEPHEN WAS BLOWIN' AWAY.
The fate the thistle lies in the summer breeze
To carry it who-knows-where, to take it away.
I reach for the thistle, dreaming it's just for me;
A breeze comes from who-knows-where, and carries my dream away.
Well, we greeted September with vows to remember
Our summertimes leaves turning brown;
We were wanting it all as we tumbled through fall,
So we talked about settling down;
And I woke up one morning and found he was gone,
And I wondered what took him so long.
Like a thistle that's teased by a warm summer breeze,
STEPHEN WAS BLOWIN' AWAY.
